Sit down, order a Tweety Bruger, and ask for a nice craft beer. One of the best places in Terre Haute for a nice dinner and beer. The atmosphere is good, the sound of people shooting pool, conversation, and music, but never too loud or disturbing. The servers/bartenders are almost always polite and they know their beer. The beer selection has really gotten better over the last 3 years. I am impressed! They now carry Three Floyds, Bell's, and Upland beers, among other craft and import selections. Their draught list has expanded as well. When I used to go there Blue Moon was the best they had on draught. Now they offer at least 2-3 craft beers among the bevy of light macro yellow fizzy water. Charlie's has improved VASTLY! This place is an institution in Terre Haute and I also seem to have a hankerin' to go back when I have time. Love going there with my Dad, it makes the experience that much better. Be sure to also try their Reuben! I just wish they would bring back the Spudsters! MMMM!

Great neighborhood bar & grill. Try the burger and the rueben. Fried mushrooms are a great way to start.

Its a beer and shots kind of place with a tasty custom built Tweety burgers. Smoking is allowed at this bar and they are open on till Sunday 12 a.m. The bartender was hilarious and prompt- I had a great time.

I am glad I waited until I visited Charlie's for a second time before doing a review. If I had done it after the first visit, then they would have been dinged for poor service. Food: I have eaten at Charlie's for breakfast and lunch. Both meals have been excellent tasting food. The amount you get for the price is excellent also. I ordered some mini corn dogs and the order was like 20 of them. At the chains restaurants, you are lucky if you get 10 mini corn dogs per order. My breakfast sandwich was very good also. Simply one of the best bargains for food in the city. Drinks: Seem to have a full bar but I don't drink so can not comment on bar tending, drink selection or prices. Service: One time it was excellent, another it was so so. Overall the service was something that would not prevent me from returning to the establishment. Parking: Plenty of off street parking during breakfast and lunch times. Atmosphere: There are plenty of TVs to watch your favorite sporting event.

A true "neighborhood" bar & grill nestled in the middle of a residential area, I would have never found it if someone else hadn't told us about it. The atmosphere is typical for Terre Haute- well worn and in need of some updating, but the food quality and flavors are definitely above average for a Terre Haute neighborhood bar. They use high quality meats, have a huge menu, and have plenty of things to entertain you if you just want to hang out for a while including pool tables, arcade games, darts, jukebox, and free-wi. I liked the chili dog, which I usually only ordered as a half size and always ate with a knife and fork because there's no point in even trying to keep it in the bun. The burgers and sandwiches are also very good- in fact, everything I had there on different occasions was always good enough to eat again. The portions are large and the prices are good- definitely one of Terre Haute's better bars when it comes to food.

I know that I have written a review here before and I know the food is great but the service that I experienced tonight is AWFUL. I have been waiting for 40 minutes since sitting down and have yet to get my drink. I understand that I'm here during the rush of dinner time but I'm STILL waiting for my drink. The poor girl that is suppose to be serving out table is new and has no clue what is even on the menu. I'm just disappointed because I really go like the food here but the service makes me never want to come here again. And to top it off we brought friends that just moved into terre haute and I doubt that they will come back here again. IT HAS NOW BEEN AN HOUR AND I AM STILL DRINKLESS AND FOOD ORDERS ARE NOW BEING TAKEN FROM OUR TABLE....

We found Charlie's through yelp as we were passing through on our way home to Colorado. It's tucked into a neighborhood, a bit away from I-70. They have their own parking lot, which was nice since we didn't have to hunt for an on-street parking spot. They've got a decent selection of beers in bottles and on draft, so most everyone should find something. My wife and I both tried tweety burgers, and can vouch for their tastiness! She had the original Tweety, which comes with fried pickle slices on it. I had the jalapeño Tweety where the fried pickles are replaced with deep fried and battered jalapeño slices. The fries are also good! Give it a try!

Sitting in the outside bar waiting for a server to notice our drinks are empty. First time my wife and I have been here. The staff is not real attentive to the customers unless you are a regular. Don't think this will be out terre haute hang out. We have owned a bar and when new ppl came in we always went out of our way to make them feel welcome. Not good Charlies we have a lot of friends who spend big bucks.

I really enjoy Charlie's. The prices are typically good, and it's a great place for meeting up with friends when you have a lot of time to just chill. Service is ALWAYS slow. The only time I'd say I've gotten stellar service was in the middle of the afternoon sitting at the bar. If you are interested in ordering food, be prepared for a wait. Most of their lunch/dinner options are typical pub/bar fair. Their dry-rub wings are delicious but you don't get a lot for your money. The Charlie's Chips (fried pickles) are great! What I really love, though, is their breakfast. It's a great price and is very good. You can tell the omelets are made with fresh ingredients (eggs they're actually cracking!). They serve biscuits and gravy on certain days of the week, and they always run out by the time I've gotten there.

Charlie's is an okay spot for a bite to eat. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food wasn't too bad for a sports bar. There was an old timer at the bar when we walked in who seemed like he was giving us the eye for quite some time. What's with the glares, dude? I had the pot roast melt sandwich which was a bit flat -- missing most of the pot roast aromas and flavors that I expect. I even took out some of the meat to try to taste it separate from the rest of the sandwich, but it lacked the long-cooked buttery quality that a good pot roast ought to have. The fries and such were just fine, nothing spectacular. Also, it seems like this is one of those places where you can't avoid having a television in your line-of-sight. Some people might find that entertaining, but I find it distracting.

Very good food, definitely try any of the burgers and fries! Only downfall is the wait for the food but it's worth it. Highly recommend it!

3.5 stars just about average in my opinion. It is a dive bar. it has few pool tables and other bar games. They have 10 or so taps and from what I saw they were struggling with foam (using frosted mugs which they do is part of the problem). I would stick with bottles of which they do have a good selection. I got the burger that everyone recommended in previous reviews. I got the ones with fried jalapeños on it which were pretty good, but the burger and other toppings were just simple like a could of made at home. Service was good and everyone there was friendly just nothing about it really stood out to me.

Wasn't bad. Wasn't great either. Layout of the building was weird. Felt like a mouse in a maze trying to find our group. Outdoor area was nice. Service was so - so. Never did get my refill on my drink...

Good atmosphere. Decent beer selection. Boss burgers. Price is okay.

Solid bar food (I like the Tweety melt best but the Reuben and the Philly Steak are done equally well) and a decent beer selection for the area. I come here with my dad a lot when I am in town visiting him for dinner around 5 pm (Happy Hour) when he gets off work ands never crowded or loud and the service is generally on point. The prices are reasonable and you can hang out for awhile without feeling awkward. I think they still have a smoking section which is odd to me but not that big of deal. As others have pointed out, it is most definitely a neighborhood place with a rich local history. And its is off the beaten path and not a chain, so it's a win in my book. I would love to give it a try for brunch sometime, as a Bloody Mary and some biscuits and gravy together at the same place seems hard to come by in ol' TH. Also I would like to see what it's like post Happy Hour or on the weekend as a place to really tie one on, but considering I am not a local I don't know when I will get to have the opportunity.

Best burgers around. They have a good beer selection as well. Service was a little slow but we were enjoying our drinks so it wasn't a problem. We will definitely be back.
